Never Too Old to Play: We Help Chicago Celebrate Older Americans Month

Posted: 5/21/2012

The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) is celebrating national Older Americans Month in May with events and activities designed to keep Chicago seniors active mentally and physically.
38th Ward Alderman Timothy Cullerton along with Joyce Gallagher of the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services joined area seniors at the Portage Park Satellite Senior Center for a ceremony in honor of Older Americans Month.
The theme of this year's national observance is "Never Too Old to Play," and recognizes that older Americans actively continue contributing to their communities while having fun in the process.
Close to 400,000 Chicagoans are "age 60 years or better", and the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services assisted nearly 150,000 of them in 2011 via its programs and services through its 19 Regional and Satellite Senior Centers and its network of community-based and faith-based organization partners throughout the City.
