Free Tax Help

The city of Chicago offers free, confidential tax help at locations across Chicago from late January through mid-april Federal and Illinois tax return preparation and e-file are offered free of charge by the City's two partner nonprofits, the Center for Economic Progress and Ladder Up, which annually prepare thousands of returns with thelp of trained volunteers.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR FREE TAX HELP?
Families earning up to $50,000 annually
Individuals earning up to $25,000 annually
Taxpayers that need to file an amended return (i.e. make corrections to a submitted return) or that need to file tax returns for previous years (2011-2013) are encouraged to visit a tax site in March
WHAT INFORMATION SHOULD I BRING TO A TAX SITE?
Social Security cards or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) for yourself, your spouse, and everyone else that appears on your tax return
Photo identification
All 2014 tax documents (W-2, 1099 forms)
Bank account and routing numbers
Proof of health insurance coverage (i.e. Form 1095-A, private/employer insurance information) or Certificate of Exemption
Copy of your second or final property tax bill paid in 2014
Records of college-related expenses
Copy of your 2013 tax return
