Registration is open for the 2013-14 school year for grades 3 year-old Pre-K through 8th grade. The school would like interested families to register for a tour. Please call the school at 773-736-9133 to schedule a date.

Little Red Tot Spot is a free playgroup (no charge) for children newborn to 3 years. The group gathers every Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 AM in the Church Hall. It's a great way to meet new friends in the community.

Dunning Community Garden

Thursday 03/25/13 - 06/2/13
Dunning Community Garden to start this spring near Wright College.

Volunteers are needed to help get the garden ready by building plots, moving soil, putting down mulch, etc. Registration for your individual plots will be available soon. The garden will have a harvest give-away component so gardeners who don't want to manage their own plot can come out and garden in the common gardens at their convenience. If you are interested in growing healthy, organic food for your family or for someone in need, or you just want to be part of the build, contact the Dunning Community Garden at

FAFSA Workshop

City Clerk Susana Mendoza and Ladder Up are offering expert assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for students and their parents. The free workshops are every Tuesday from February 5th through April 9th.

The service is provided to everyone, regardless of income, and no appointment is necessary. The earlier students apply for financial aid the greater their chances of receiving the maximum amount available to them. You can receive free electronic preparation and e-filing of your tax return on Wednesdays until April 10, 2013. TAP serves households earning up to $45,000 annually and individuals earning up to $20,000 annually. Please note that they cannot serve taxpayers with: income from rental property, proceeds from sale of stock or bonds, Form 1099-A, Form 1099-C, or taxpayers that were not full-year Illinois residents last year.

Benefit Night for Dennis Tisdale

Friday 7:30 PM
Dennis Tisdale and his wife were walking to their car at about 2 am March 3 near Milwaukee and Sunnyside. While crossing the street, a silver or gray SUV or sedan brushed up against them. Words were exchanged, and a man got out of the vehicle with a baseball bat.
Dennis was struck with a baseball bat multiple times and was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in a coma.
The father of four and veteran of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division is out of the hospital now. Dennis and his family are parishioners at Our Lady of Victory Parish, and fellow parishioner Ald. Tim Cullerton has offered a $1,500 reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this crime.

Friends of Portage Park Winter Market - Gardening Discussion with Eliza Fournier

This Indoor Farmer's Market will be held periodically on Sundays from December to May.
From 12 Noon to 1:30 pm, Eliza Fournier of The Chicago Botanic Garden, will discuss community gardening and answer your gardening questions. This will be a great opportunity to get answers to your gardening dilemmas and learn what the proper steps are to starting a community garden. The event is FREE.
